A big-data revolution is underway in health care, starting with the vastly increased supply of information. Over the last decade, pharmaceutical companies have been aggregating years of research and development data into medical databases, while payors and providers have digitized their patient records. At IHOPE, we are currently undertaking several projects that utilize pharmaceutical sales data as well as electronic medical records data of the LVPEI network of hospitals. Through this, we aim to produce empirical insights that could aid policymakers in making informed policy decisions. In the past year, I’ve learned a lot from the diverse perspective of the members of IHOPE, and hope that the wonderful work that the team is undertaking would leave a lasting impact on the discussions surrounding health policy.
